Keep on Moving: Is Your Business Embracing Change?Change

With the recent launch of our new website and the eagerly awaited arrival of spring (at last!), I’ve been thinking increasingly about renewal, growth and change: more specifically, the importance of embracing change.

According to the motivational speaker and author Tony Robbins, “Change is inevitable. Progress is optional” and I think every successful business owner knows this.   Change is, after all, the most permanent thing in the world: it’s an inescapable reality which must be understood, appreciated, and embraced in order to succeed in business.

Embrace the speed of change – or be left behind!

It’s just over two years since I set up Executive VPA, time, in one sense that seems to have passed in the flicker of an eye. Looking back over of the challenges I’ve overcome, the progress I’ve made and the way the business has developed, however, makes it clear that I’ve travelled a very long way!

Our new website is testimony to this: the addition of video and links to social media platforms bears witness to rapid changes in the communications and technology landscape over the past few years. Whatever your business, there’s no doubt that technology will have played a huge role in changes in your industry, and these changes mean that you, as a business owner, have to change too! Any business that ignores the opportunities offered by the digital revolution, including online video and social media, does so at their peril!

Of course change is difficult, for individuals and businesses; sometimes the status quo seems like the safest and most comfortable place to be. But change provides growth, learning and challenge and it should be viewed as an opportunity, not as something to run away from.

Collaboration – grow your business with the help of others.

Leg Up

One of the things that has given me “a leg up” when it comes to embracing change is the fantastic network of contacts I’ve built up and continue to develop. Without the support, advice, assistance and guidance of the people I’ve met and worked with, I wouldn’t have been able to realize my full potential and develop my business. I am, of course, in the business of helping others to focus on growing their businesses by taking care of the things that they can’t manage. In the same way, I have embraced the power of out-sourcing, and utilizing the expertise of freelance writers, developers, graphic designers and other specialists has strengthened our branding and increased our skill set.

You don’t have to become a social media guru, for example, in order to capitalize on its potential benefits to your business: you can let a specialist do the work for you. Things change so fast that trying to be an expert in everything is impossible, but your business can grow with the changes through working with others.

Change, but remember who you are!

There’s no time like the present to take advantage of new opportunities in your industry and grow your business. Change might be difficult, but not changing could be fatal. So use change to your benefit: accept that you’ll make mistakes along the way, expect the unexpected, and join forces with others to help your business grow! It hasn’t been all change for Executive VPA; the foundations of the business remain the same and I am strongly focused on my core values and original intentions. The initial excitement I felt at the beginning has simply grown. The mistakes I’ve made have proved a great foundation for learning and moving forward and the experiences – both good and bad – have enabled me to expand and grow. I’m very excited about the future of the business and looking forward to helping many more businesses adapt to change and develop.
